GRANVILLE, Ohio – Denison field hockey head coach P.J. Soteriades has announced the hiring of Caroline Little as the next assistant coach for the Big Red for the 2020-21 season. Little takes over the position after spending the last four seasons as a member of the Denison field hockey program from 2016-20.
On the field, Little was a three-year starter for the Big Red while leading Denison to three-straight North Coast Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships. She also guided DU to three-consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Tournament from 2017-19.
Throughout her four-year career, Little appeared in 51 games for the Big Red, collecting four goals and three assists, including a game-tying penalty stroke goal against Rhodes College on Sept. 22, 2019. She was also named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Squad in each of her four years at Denison and was a three-time member of the NCAC Academic Honor Roll.
A native of Acton, Massachusetts, Little recently graduated from Denison in the spring of 2020 with a bachelor's degree in health, exercise, and sport studies while minoring in education. As a student, Little served as a senior fellow and campus liaison for the Department of Health, Exercise, and Sport Studies, was a two-year member of Denison's Student-Athlete Advisory Council (DSAAC), and also spent her time volunteering with Big Brothers, Big Sisters, New Beginnings of Ohio, and within the Granville School District as a student teacher.
Little also brings multiple years of coaching experience to her new role. As a coach with the Cape Ann Field Hockey Club, Little prepared age-appropriate practice and game plans for young athletes from the age of 6-16 while also sharing logistics and policies with parents, coaches, and referees. She utilized the same experiences and coaching philosophies at the Stick-To-Stick Field Hockey Camp and as a volunteer coach at Granville Middle School where she taught different practice drills, leadership, and teamwork.
Ending the 2019 season at 17-4, the Big Red reached the Sweet 16 of the 2019 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championships and also captured their third-straight NCAC regular season and tournament championships. The season was also highlighted by head coach P.J. Soteriades who secured the 200th win of her coaching career when Denison defeated Wittenberg 1-0 on Oct. 29. In 18 seasons at the helm of DU, Soteriades is the program's all-time leader in wins with a record of 204-147 (.581).
