Biopsies, including one on her 80th birthday, September 28, confirmed it was cancerous, but she's not seeking pity.
"I've been so fortunate, I'm 80 years old. To get this far and not have it happen to me in my 30s. And you know I have two daughters, I have four daughters-in-law, better me than them," she said.

Senator Little has approached her diagnosis much the same way she takes on constituent issues, looking for a solution and getting it done.
She even kept it from her six adult kids and 18 grandchildren for a while, telling them only after it was confirmed cancer.
She admits when she did tell them they gave her a hard time. "Yeah, not bad though. I said, 'Listen, I fully intended to tell you' but they're getting ready for my 80th birthday."
Little didn't want it to be a downer or a burden, and she had no plans to share her diagnosis with the public until she had a conversation with her hairdresser.
"She said I kind of think someone would go pick up the phone and make a doctor's appointment."
That's what she hopes as she starts oral chemotherapy soon.
Little is grateful for the staff at Glens Falls Hospital's Cancer Center and for the mammogram that detected the lump.
"With the technology we have today, it is so much easier to find out early, early, early when it's almost a minuscule size and you can really do something about it."
Little points out that thanks to state legislation, mammograms and other cancer-screening tests are free.
