LITTLE VILLAGE — Little Village’s city-run coronavirus testing site will be moved next week.
Ald. Michael Rodriguez (22nd) announced the city is shifting the COVID-19 testing site from Saucedo Scholastic Academy School to Farragut Career Academy High School, 2345 S. Christiana Ave.
The last day for testing at Saucedo will be Friday. Testing at Farragut will begin Monday, Rodriguez said in a Facebook post.
The Farragut site will offer walk-up and drive-thru testing.
Rodriguez said he was informed about the change by the city’s public health department. He will receive briefings from the city leaders about “traffic procedures and other logistics as it relates to the site activities.”
In a separate announcement, Rodriguez said the city is adding a testing site at Midway Airport.
Testing at Midway is available noon-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Saturdays at Parking Lot B, 5738 W. 55 St.
The city recommends people first contact their primary care doctor or health care provider for a COVID-19 test. If they do not offer testing, people should go to a federally qualified health center or community clinic for a test. If they’re still not able to get a test, then they should go to one of the city’s testing sites.
But the city’s testing sites have seen a huge surge in demand as COVID-19 cases have climbed, meaning appointments have been hard to come by and people are waiting in line for hours or being turned away before they can get a test.
Last week, community groups and an alderman urged the mayor and governor to open more static sites in areas hit hardest during the pandemic, particularly the South and West sides.
