GREECE, N.Y. — Little League Baseball remains hopeful for a 2021 season. Local Little League programs are working on getting the word out to get more players registered to play.
The baseball fields may still be under a blanket of snow, but Greece Little League is anxious and excited to get the spring season going. Player registration is well underway and before you know it baseball, softball, and t-ball will be taking the field.
“These guys are itching to get outside and we are itching to see them out on the field at Greece Little League,” said Brad Bates, Greece Little League U-12 Baseball coach.
Ryan Gleichauf gets in as much indoor batting practice as he can until the snow melts. He can’t wait for the Greece Little League spring season.
“I just really like playing the game," said Gleichauf. "I like being with my teammates and building friendships and I like getting better as a team, playing as a team, and winning as a team.”
Coach Brad Bates says the league has a health safety return-to-play plan. He’s hoping more players sign up now for spring ball. Only about a third of the league roster is registered.
“I think the caution has to do with the numbers down and especially with what happened last year, but all the safety measures are put in place for this coming year and we are open again. Baseball is back on so let’s have a fun spring season," said Bates.
Liam Brick is ready to play ball. He is counting down the days until opening day in May.
“It is really fun because you get to make new friends and just play the game," said Brick. "It is definitely different but it’s still fun to play even if you have a mask on.”
Greece Little League is registering girls and boys ages 4 to 16 to play at greecelittleleague.org.
