Little Caesar Enterprises Inc. has elevated the leader of its international division to the newly created role of chief operating officer as the Detroit-based pizza giant works to expand abroad.
As COO, Paula Vissing is charged with overseeing all domestic and international operations, the company announced Tuesday.
The title change represents broader responsibilities for Vissing, who worked most recently as the company's senior vice president of international. She started at the pizza chain in 2011 as vice president of purchasing and quality assurance.
"Paula has an impressive track record within the company and has successfully led our international division for the last five years, which continues to see record-breaking results year after year," Little Caesars President and CEO David Scrivano said in a news release.
The Ilitch-owned pizza chain is the third largest in the country by sales, estimated to be about $3.85 billion in 2019. The privately held company does not disclose finances, but revenue is believed to have increased substantially in 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic has been good to pizza makers.
Prior to the pandemic, the nation's top four pizza chains — Ann Arbor-based Domino's, Pizza Hut, Papa John's and Little Caesars — controlled more than 40 percent of the $44 billion domestic market, according to Technomic Inc., a food service data consulting firm. Each of Little Caesars' competitors, which are publicly traded, reported large revenue increases last year.
Little Caesars' expansion, however, is focused outside the highly saturated U.S. market, where the company already has more than 4,000 locations. In the past couple of years, the company has opened hundreds of stores abroad, including in Colombia, Spain, India, Singapore, Peru, Chile and Philippines.
Little Caesars declined to say how many international locations it has opened but said it now operates in every U.S. state and 27 countries and territories.
The company's three regional leaders — for Canada; Mexico and Latin America; and the Asia Pacific and Europe, the Middle East and Africa — will report to Vissing, in addition to U.S. operations and training.
"I look forward to continuing to work along with the Little Caesars leadership team, and organization as a whole, as we continue to bring great tasting, affordable pizza to families around the world," Vissing said in the release.
