Little Giants Cruise To 29-Point Win Over Wittenberg - Wabash College

Wabash raced out to an early double-digit lead against Wittenberg Saturday afternoon and never looked back in a 94-65 home win at Chadwick Court.
 
The Little Giants (2-2) excelled in nearly every area in the victory. Wabash shot an impressive 51.6 percent from the field by connecting on 33-of-64 attempts. The Little Giants hit 10-of-22 three-point attempts for 45.5 percent and shot 18-of-23 from the free throw line for 78.3 percent. Wabash held Wittenberg to 38.9 percent shooting overall (21-of-54) and only allowed 5-of-22 three-point attempts to score (22.7 percent).
 
Wabash out-rebounded Wittenberg 39-to-32 including a 10-8 advantage on the offensive glass. The Little Giants also forced 14 turnovers that accounted for a total of 21 points while only giving the ball away eight times.
 
Tyler Watson scored a game-high 22 points as one of four Wabash players to finish in double figures. Watson also handed out five assists. Kellen Schreiber scored 14 points and narrowly missed a double-double by grabbing nine rebounds. Ahmoni Jones also scored 14 points. Avery Beaver tossed in 13 points.
 
Wabash trailed for only 15 seconds in the contest. Wittenberg (0-1) scored the first basket of the game before Watson evened the score with a pair of free throws. The Little Giants rolled to a 12-point lead with 11:55 on the first period clock thanks to a 12-2 run. Wabash led by as many as 21 points in the opening half. Wittenberg never got closer than 16 points before the Little Giants pulled away in the late going for the 29-points victory.
 
Edreece Redmond and Jake Tarnow finished with seven points apiece as Wabash played all 14 players on its roster. Harrison Gough, Jeff Queen, and Joe Martin each scored 10 points for Wittenberg.
 
The win snapped a four-game losing streak by Wabash against Wittenberg and is the first home win since a 96-83 victory versus the Tigers in January of 2019.
 
The two teams will meet again on Sunday afternoon in Springfield, Ohio at 4 p.m. No spectators will be allowed in attendance. The game will be available over the Internet at https://wittenbergtigers.com/sports/mbkb/2020-21/boxscores/20210214_n0ox.xml.
