Over two weeks, Acme Packing Company takes a look at each position group on the Green Bay Packers and provides grades and insight on how they performed in the 2020 season. Today, we examine the defensive line.
In 2020, the Green Bay Packers largely stood pat with their defensive line. The core players remained the same: Kenny Clark in the middle, Dean Lowry and Tyler Lancaster flanking him, and Kingsley Keke and Montravius Adams providing depth. The team cycled through a couple of young players here and there, but there were few no substantial additions until late in the season.
After a veteran run-stuffer came available late in the year, the Packers made a move to shore up their run defense by acquiring Damon “Snacks” Harrison for the final stretch of the season. The Packers’ waiver claim on Harrison was a sign that they were open to exploring all avenues to patch questionable areas of their roster as the season came to a close, and foreshadowed other moves like the acquisitions of Jared Veldheer and Tramon Williams.

Stats: 3 games played, 1 assisted tackle
While Harrison actually took the field, unlike either of those two other veteran acquisitions, he got only a limited opportunity to make any significant plays. In his three games with the Packers, Harrison lined up for 12, 3, and 16 defensive snaps, pitching in with seven special teams reps in the postseason. He was credited with a single assisted tackle during that time, in the NFC Championship Game, a game that also saw him record his highest snap total.
Unfortunately for Harrison, the ending wasn’t what he hoped for. He did get to make his second career postseason appearance — coincidentally, his only prior playoff game was at Lambeau Field when the Giants lost in the 2016 Wild Card round — but he once again was held short of the Super Bowl.
The Packers will have a contract decision to make on the 32-year-old Harrison this offseason, as his contract with the Seahawks was for a single season. Still a useful run-stopper, Harrison will need to accept a rotational role from now on, as he is not an every-down player at this stage of his career.
Other Acquisitions
Billy Winn, Brian Price, Anthony Rush, Willington Previlon, Delontae Scott
The Packers landed Winn and Price as in-season practice squad additions, with both players ending up on the active roster for multiple games. Winn made six tackles and broke up two passes in six games, while Price, a former Packers UDFA signing, had two regular-season and two postseason appearances with no stats.
Rush was a late waiver claim from the Bears, but was waived to make room for Harrison before returning to the practice squad. Previlon and Scott, undrafted rookies, stuck on the practice squad all season but did not appear in a game.
