Little Giants Capture DePauw Quad Track and Field Title - Wabash College

Wabash scored four first-place and 15 top-three finishes to win Saturday. DePauw University Quad Invitational Meet.
 
The Little Giants scored a total of 234.5 to easily outdistance second-place Rose-Hulman with 160.5 points. DePauw finished third with a score of 124.5. Illinois Wesleyan took fourth place (116.5) followed by Hanover (59 points).
 
Josh Wiggins led the Little Giants to a pair of 1-2-3 finishes in the hurdles. He won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.16, finishing ahead of Leo Warbington in second place at 15.94 and Takeshi Greiner in third with a time of 16.25. Gionvonni Zappala placed fifth overall by finishing in 16.65.
 
Wiggins added a second victory in the 400-meter hurdles with a winning time of 56.25. Max Bigler took second place by crossing the finish line in 58.36. Zappala placed third (58.90) with Warbington finishing in fifth place (1:01.10).
 
Jose Franco ran to first place in the 200-meter dash. He captured the victory with time of 23.00. Howie Steele placed fifth overall with a time of 23.72. TK Walls finished in 23.89 to earn sixth place. Tyler Ramsey added an eighth-place finish with a time of 23.99.
 
The 4x400-meter relay team of Franco, Steele, Ramsey, and Thomas Joven won that event with a combined time of 3:28.03. Steele and Franco also finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Steele turned in a time of 50.58 with Franco just behind at 50.73. Ramsey placed fifth with a time of 51.04. Joven tied for seventh place after finishing in 52.76.
 
Luke Bender scored a victory in the pole vault by clearing a height of 4.25 meters (13-11.25). Thomas Schnerre topped out at a height of 3.65 meters (11-11.75) to finish fourth overall.
 
Trashan Clemons finished the 100-meter dash in 11.87 to capture second place just 4/100ths of a second behind the winner, Dawson Allen from Rose-Hulman. Josh Manfred placed fourth with a time of 11.94. Steven Coffing finished in 11.97 to earn sixth place overall. Ethan Hurt's time of 12.03 earned him seventh place.
 
Clarke Criddell scored a second-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:02.18. Ethan Pine placed fourth overall by finishing in 2:04.77. Nikolai Jones scored a fifth-place finish with a time of 2:05.24. Hunter Wakefield finished in sixth place at 2:05.90.
Brandon Peck placed second in a pair of field events for Wabash. His top distance of 13.84 meters (45-05.00) in the shot put earned second place ahead of teammate Brandon English with a toss of 13.61 meters (44-08-00). Isaiah Campbell finished seventh with a mark of 13.13 meters (43-01.00).
 
Peck also earned a second-place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 45.27 meters (148-06). Mason Gaskin produced a top mark of 45.03 meters (147-09) to finish in fourth place. Campbell finished fifth with a distance of 43.72 meters (143-05). Connor Wakefield turned in a mark of 43.04 meters (141-02) to finish sixth.
 
Reis Thomas placed second in the discus with a best effort of 40.76 meters (133-09). Campbell scored another top-eight finish by taking third place with a throw of 37.89 metes (124-04). Gaskin placed fourth overall (37.68 meters; 123-07) with English taking fifth place (37.61 meters; 123-05).
 
The Wabash 4x100-meter relay team of Hurt, Kamron Ferguson, Clemons, and Coffing placed third overall with a time of 44.52.
 
Isaac Caines added fifth-place finishes in the javelin throw and high jump. He cleared 1.78 meters (5-10) to tie for fifth in the high jump. Stuart Anker placed seventh at a height of 1.73 meters (5-08). Ferguson scored an eighth-place finish at a height of 1.73 meters, as well. Caines produced a top throw of 32.82 meters (107-08) in the javelin. Zappala placed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 32 meters (105-00).
 
Wabash will compete at Taylor University on Saturday, April 3 before hosting the first Huntsman Family Invitational at the brand new Little Giant Stadium facility on April 10.
