Little Giants Improve to 3-0 With 13-4 Win Over Earlham - Wabash College

Wabash improved to 3-0 to begin the 2021 lacrosse season with a 13-4 home victory over Earlham College Friday evening. The 3-0 start to the season is the best beginning in Little Giant program history.
 
Wabash trailed 1-0 early after the visiting Quakers (1-3) scored in the first 38 seconds of the contest. The Little Giants responded with seven consecutive goals, starting with an unassisted goal by freshman Anthony Nguyen. Joseph Plencner gave Wabash the lead for good with his first of a team-high four goals for the game to give the Little Giants a 2-1 lead. Ethan Stonis followed with one of his three goals on the day to put Wabash in front 3-1 at the end of the first period.
 
Evan Schiefelbein opened the second period with a goal ahead of two more by Stonis. Nguyen added his second goal to put Wabash in front 7-1 before Earlham added a second goal late in the period. Plencner closed out the half with his second goal to give the Little Giants an 8-2 halftime advantage.
 
Plencner started the third period with another goal, followed by a score by AJ Shaheen. Plencner picked up his fourth goal in the final two minutes of the third period. Jeremiah Eaton scored early in the final period before Nguyen closed out the scoring for the game with his third goal for the 13-4 final score.
 
AJ Rogers handed out three assists in the contest. Stonis, Plencner, and Eaton each tallied one assist for Wabash.
 
The Little Giants outshot Earlham 58-18. John Frey made five saves to earn his third victory in goal for Wabash. Neal Pettinga dominated at the faceoff dot by winning 19-of-21 restarts. The Little Giants were successful on 22 of their 24 clearing attempts.
 
Schiefelbein led the defense with four caused turnovers and 12 groundballs.
 
Wabash will travel to Hanover College on Wednesday, March 24 for a 4 p.m. contest against the Panthers.
