Little Giants Finish Second At DePauw Quad Meet - Wabash College

Wabash scored five first-place finishes and 19 top-five efforts at Saturday's DePauw University Quad Meet. The Little Giants finished second out of five teams with a total of 167 points.
 
Trine University won the team competition with a score of 199 points. Rose-Hulman captured third place with a total of 147.50 points. DePauw placed fourth (120.50 points) followed by Manchester University (93 points).
 
Luke Bender won the pole vault by clearing a career-best height of 4.29 meters (14-00.75). Maddox Lee placed second in the event with a top height of 3.70 meters (12-1.50), also a career-best effort. Brandon Steele captured fourth place by clearing 3.55 meters (11-7.75).
 
Reis Thomas captured the top spot in the discus with a winning throw of 44.80 meters (147-00) for the best distance of his career in that event. Isaiah Campbell placed second with a career-best throw of 43.58 meters (143-00). Brandon Peck's throw of 42.64 meters (139-11) earned him third place. Peck added an individual win in the hammer throw with a toss of 48.88 meters (160-04).
 
Clarke Criddell ran to an individual victory on the track for the Little Giants. He won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:47.00. The 4x400-meter relay team of Howie Steele, Jose Franco, TK Walls, and Tyer Ramsey ran away from the field in their race. The foursome won the event with a time of 3:23.53, finishing eight seconds ahead of the second-place group. Franco added an individual third-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a career-best time of 22.38.
 
Wabash turned in three top-five finishes in the 110-meter hurdles. Leo Warbington finished in second place with a career-best time of 15.31. Freshman Takashi Greiner ran his best time of the season to finish fourth by crossing the line in 15.84. Willy Shepler ran the best time of his career at 16.10 to finish fifth in the finals.
 
Max Bigler and Giovonni Zappala placed second and third, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles. Bigler turned in a career-best time of 57.16 in the finals to place second. Zappala's time of 59.78 in the finals earned him third place after he qualified for the finals with a career-best time of 57.79.
 
Ethan Pine scored a second-place finish in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:01.55.
 
Kyler Schalk produced the best mark of his career with a distance of 5.94 meters (19-6.00) to place third in the long jump. Stuart Anker added a third-place finish in the high jump by clearing a career-best height of 1.75 meters (5-8.75).
 
Andrew Young earned a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.18.
 
Wabash is scheduled to compete in the Big Blue Open at Millikin University this Friday. The meet is set to begin at 4 p.m. (CDT).
