A new restaurant serving some interesting styles of pizza opens this afternoon — Saturday, September 18 — in the Reston Town Center West development, just off the 267 tollway. It’s called Little Beast and it specializes in Detroit-style pizza and what they call Grandma pizzas.
The new restaurant also has a Red Velvet Cupcakery location — marking the return of the cupcake shop to Reston after it vacated its original spot in the Reston Town Center several years ago.
Little Beast has its original location in DC near Chevy Chase. Reston is store No. 2. Its Detroit-style pizzas feature a thick focaccia-like crust, baked in a rectangular pan with toppings and brick cheddar cheese, and then the sauce is added afterwards in racing stripes across the top.
Meanwhile, their Grandma pizzas feature a thinner rectangular-shaped crust. Grandma pizzas originated on Long Island and are meant to evoke the memory of pizzas made in the kitchens of Italian grandmothers.

If you don’ t recall the Red Velvet Cupcakery location at RTC, it’s just what it sounds like. A bakery shop that specializes in cup cakes. Popular flavors include Devil’s Food, Peanut Butter Cup and Carrot Cake. You can see the bakery’s menu here.
Both brands are under one roof in the former Famous Toastery spot at Reston Town Center West, a small retail and office complex near the larger Reston Town Center. RTC West is home to a Cooper’s Hawk restaurant, a Nando’s Peri-Peri, and a Honeygrown, which is a stir-fry and salad chain.
It’s also home to Tiki Thai, a Thai restaurant that is a sister establishment to the Sense of Thai St. restaurant at One Loudoun in Ashburn.
