On Sunday, October 3rd, the 7U Edwardsville Little Tigers Football Team played against the Collinsville Little Raiders and suffered yet another loss of this 2021 Season. The 7U Little Tigers coached by David Jackson Sr, assisted by Coach Watts, Coach Bradley, and Coach Godwin, ended this game with a final score of 27 Little Tigers – 28 Little Raiders.
Game starts with a kick-off from Collinsville to Edwardsville #75 Louis Jones dazzled the crowd with a long kickoff return for a 65-yard touchdown, with the extra point good for Edwardsville. 2nd play of the game kick-off Edwardsville Little Tigers to Collinsville Little Raiders, Raiders returns the ball to Edwardsville 37-yard line. Edwardsville Tigers defense trying to do their best to put a stop to Raiders Offense. #26 Blake Shelton showed outstanding effort while blocking this game. Collinsville Raiders have made it into the Edwardsville Tigers 30-yard line, Edwardsville Defense #24 Jamyl Clayton and #16 David Jackson Jr with a key block on defense stop Collinsville Raiders in their tracks. Next play, Edwardsville defense #97 Jared Farrell, who showed great determination on both sides of the ball, #24 Jamyl Clayton, #16 David Jackson Jr, #53 Viridian Edwards who showed outstanding hustle on defense, #44 Henry Matthews who showed grit and toughness while blocking on offense, and #34 Henry Godwin do a heck of a job, but Collinsville Raiders score a touchdown, the extra point being good for Collinsville and the score is now tied 7-7 with only 2 minutes and 28 seconds gone in the first quarter. Dazzling kickoff to Edwardsville Tigers, Edwardsville gets the ball at the 48- yard line with a great run by #3 Graham Miller gets the Edwardsville Little Tigers into the Raiders 21-yard line. Edwardsville #34 Henry Godwin gets in to the 3-yard line and it is first and goal for the Edwardsville Little Tigers. #34 Henry Godwin gets to the 1-yard line, still first and goal #34 Henry Godwin gets his 2nd touchdown of the game for the Edwardsville, extra point is good score is now 14 Edwardsville Little Tigers to 7 Collinsville Little Raiders. Still first quarter with 3 minutes and 34 seconds left. #15 Tyler Bradley kicks off to the Little Raiders, almost resulting in a recovery by Edwardsville, but Collinsville hangs onto the ball. #5 Liam Merchant and #7 Isaac Merchant showed great hustle on special teams this game. It’s a Raiders ball at 48-yard line First and Ten. Raiders quarterback gets hit hard in the backfield by #34 Henry Godwin, #29 Calvin Griffith, and #24 Jamyl Clayton. Next play the Little Raiders breakthrough and touchdown, Little Tigers and Little Raiders are now tied at 14-14 with 43 seconds left in the first quarter. Raiders kickoff to Edwardsville #3 Graham Miller’s ball gets to the 48-yard line. #34 Henry Godwin does a massive carry and gets into the Raiders 14-yard line, for 1st and 10. #3 Graham Miller gets in for the touchdown and Edwardsville is good for the extra point which end of the first quarter and starts the second quarter. Score going into the 2nd quarter is Tigers 21 and Raiders 14.
2nd quarter, great tackle by #24 Jamyl Clayton in the backfield to stop the Raiders and push them back, #75 Louis Jones stop the Raiders from going the distance with a great tackle to put a stop to the Little Raiders. Little Raiders keep pushing and get in before the Little Tigers can stop them and score another touchdown. Tigers defense is trying to stop the Little Raiders, and scores now tied at 21. Raiders ball and next big play is a huge stop by #75 Louis Jones, it is now 3rd and 1-yard to get first down, followed by a 1st down at the 29-yard line by stopped by #75 Louis Jones. #29 Calvin Griffith (who helped to pave the way on touchdown drives this game) assisted by #3 Graham Miller them short on yet another run down the middle. #34 Henry Godwin and #24 Jamyl Clayton stopped another play down the middle. #35 Bodie Mortland (who made key tackles on the defensive perimeter this game) and #15 Tyler Bradley (who showed great effort on defense this game), bust a move and tackle by the Tigers results 1st down for the Little Tigers at the Raiders 1st and goal. 1 minute 20 seconds left in the 2nd quarter #3 Graham Miller gets in the taken down by the Little Raiders in the backfield for a loss of yardage. #18 Crew Prange who had great interior line play gets hit hard in the backfield preventing any gain of yardage which puts us with 22 seconds left in the first half. #3 Graham Miller gets hit for another loss of yardage in the backfield. Halftime show begins.
The 7U Little Tigers Cheerleading Squad roared their way onto the field supporting their 7U Little Tigers Football team for their halftime show comprised of Charlie Kennedy, Destiny Harvey, Maggie Bradley, Melaena Edwards, Mikaela Sanders, Nora Sollberger, and Zara Hall; coached by Kelly Sollberger and assisted by Junior coach Jalynn Clayton. These little ladies showed nothing but their Tiger Pride as they cheered the 7U boys’ football team on. Team Mom Virginia Gentry, have these boys looking great with their pink socks for October’s Breast Cancer Awareness, we all continue to thank you for all the hard work you do between and during games!!
2nd half begins with the Little Tigers kickoff by #15 Tyler Bradley. #35 Bodie Mortland is devoured by a whole pack of Little Raiders all at once and Raiders get in for a touchdown and the extra point is good to make Edwardsville Tigers 21 and Collinsville Raiders 28. Next big play is a Tigers ball and #3 Graham Miller gets in for a first down 24-yard carry. #3 Graham Miller gets us down to the Raiders 28-yard line for another 1st down. Tigers ball with 1 minute 11 seconds left in the 3rd quarter and #34 Henry Godwin gets down to within 1-yard of a 1st down at the Raiders 12 yard line, Henry had several tough carries on offense this game.
This begins a fourth quarter with 10 minutes left the score is Raiders 28 and tigers21. Officiants are consistently making bad calls, and placing players on the field, which is against league rules, and letting the clock continue to run when opposing team is offsides. At this point the entire group of Little Tigers spectators are shouting at the refs to stop the clock. Next big play of the game is #24 Jamyl Clayton gets in a big tackle against the Little Raiders with a loss several yards with only three minutes and 45 seconds left in the last quarter. Turn over on downs with 3 minutes five seconds left in the last quarter and the Little Tigers forces a fumble but it’s recovered by the Raiders with a loss of yardage at the 17-yard line. #57 Evan Osborne overcame an early injury and helped to slow down the Raiders offense in the second half of this game, and #24 Jamyl Clayton, had several tackles behind the line of scrimmage, caused that to be a loss of yardage this play. Tigers defensive trying to do their best to get into this last touchdown to try to tie the game. #35 Bodie Mortland who made key tackles on the defensive perimeter this game, makes a great defensive play to put a stop to the Raiders drive to get it to an Edwardsville first down at the Raiders 29-yard line. #3 Graham Miller gets a 2-yard gain. #34 Henry Godwin gets a first down and is now at the 12 yard line and a penalty has been called. Edwardsville Tigers are at the 10 yard line with 49.8 seconds left and Edwardsville still has one time out they need this touchdown to get a tie game and Edwardsville is so close. #3 Graham Miller gets the ball down to the 8-yard line we are 3rd and goal with 42 seconds left in this game. Edwardsville’s at the 4 yard line and #3 Graham Miller ( who did a great job leading four scoring drives) gets in to make the game for a touchdown making the score 28 Raiders 27 Tigers, this is a very close game and the tigers are really put in their hearts out there trying to get it done, unfortunately, the Raiders stop Edwardsville short by one yard of the extra point and the end score is Collinsville Raiders 28 to Edwardsville Tigers 27.
Interview with the coach post-game, coach states “Despite the fact that we lost a heartbreaker, the guys displayed tremendous effort! We will continue to work on the fundamentals (blocking and tackling) and we look forward to improving each week. Our team has a lot of heart. We also truly appreciate the outpouring of support from our parents and fans!”
The next game is on October 9th, 2021 at home against the O’Fallon Little Panthers.
Little Tigers 9U 34,
Mascoutah Indians 9U 6
It was another winning week for the 9U Little Tigers. The team traveled to Mascoutah on Saturday, October 2 to take on the Indians. The final score was 34-6 and the 9U team is now 5-1 on the season.
The Tiger defense came out strong as usual and held the Indians to very few yards. Mar-Key Malone, Elijah Ammons, Bradley Crays and Cyrus Smart led with tackles with 4 each. They were followed by Darrell Tillman and Colton Griffith with 3 tackles each. Bradley Crays had 2 tackles for a loss followed by Colton Griffith, Eli Sanderson, Holden Hargrave, Cyrus Smart, and Jaxon Wright with one each. Drake Bushman also had a sack to round out the Tiger defense. Elijah Ammons was named defensive player of the game by head coach John Miller for his performance.
Micah Barhoumi led the Tigers offense with 96 rushing yards, followed by Bradley Crays with 90, Elijah Ammons, 23 and Parker Devening, 20. Barhoumi, Crays, Ammons and Devening each had one touchdown. Extra points were scored by Brody Rayner, Parker Devening, Elijah Ammons, and Micah Barhoumi. Will Miller led the team in pancake blocks with 4, followed by Colton Griffith with 1. Barhoumi was named offensive player of the game for an outstanding running game.
Mason Lievers and Elijah Ammons each had an on-side kick recovery and Drake Bushman and Darrell Tillman had a fumble recovery. Special Teams player of the game was Cyrus Smart.
