Euphoria had a lot of plot threads to tie up in its Season 2 finale. How would Rue repay scary drug dealer Laurie? Would Maddy finally confront Cassie face-to-face? What the hell happened to Fezco and Ashtray?! Fans only got answers to some of their lingering questions, but they did get a [checks watch] four-minute long serenade courtesy of Elliot (played by Dominic Fike), titled “Little Star.” What gives?
For context: In the finale, Rue begins making amends with the people in her recovery. At one point, she stops by Elliot’s house and apologizes for her previous outburst towards him. Will she ever find out that he slept with her ex-girlfriend? Don’t worry about it! Instead of coming clean about the whole love triangle, Elliot plays Rue a song.
“Little star, feels like you fell right on my head. Gave you away to the wind, I hope it was worth it in the end,” he sings as Rue’s eyes fill with tears. “You and my guitar, I think you may be your only friend. I gave it all to see you shine again, I hope it was worth it in the end.”
The nice but very long song played a pivotal role in the Euphoria finale, so where did it come from? According to the episode’s credits, “Little Star” was actually co-written by lead actress Zendaya and Euphoria composer Labrinth. A collab, if you will!
Fans will have to wait and see if Elliot, Rue, and Jules’ complicated dynamic resurfaces in Euphoria Season 3. In the meantime, the real question is: Will Fike add “Little Star” to his concert setlist? The people need to know.
