Little Giants Lose 10-4 To Wittenberg At Grand Park - Wabash College

Wabash and Wittenberg completed the final game of the scheduled two-game series Thursday evening at Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield, Indiana. The Little Giants lost the North Coast Athletic Conference contest 10-4.
 
Wabash (14-9, 0-6 NCAC) scored a run in the bottom of the first inning in response to a two-run first inning by Wittenberg (17-5, 5-1 NCAC). Austin Simmers raced home from second base on an errant throw on a ground ball to short by Liam Patton. The Tigers extended their lead to 7-1 in the top half of the third inning by scoring five runs on five hits and one Wabash error.
 
The Little Giants added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning on RBI singles from Simmers and AJ Reid to cut the Wittenberg lead to 7-3. The deficit remained four runs until the sixth inning when the Tigers tacked on three more runs to move in front 10-3.
 
Reid added another RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning with a slow tapper to the pitcher that allowed  Reece Bauer to score from third.
 
Wabash finished the game with eight hits led by Simmers' three base hits. Patton added two hits for the Little Giants.
 
Reid started for Wabash on the mound, pitching 2-2/3 innings of five-hit baseball. He gave up five earned runs and one walk while striking out four batters. Tavic Simmons worked 3-1/3 innings and gave up six hits and three earned runs with one walk. Jacob Bishop, Gavin Patrick, and Sam Phillips each pitched one inning of scoreless relief.
 
Wabash returns to action on Saturday with a home doubleheader against The College of Wooster. The first pitch at Goodrich Ballpark is scheduled for 12 p.m.
