White Sox' Dallas Keuchel on Early Hook: ‘Little Disappointed' - NBC Chicago

White Sox’ Keuchel frustrated by early hook vs. Yankees originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

Dallas Keuchel expressed frustration that he was pulled after five innings in the White Sox' win over the Yankees on Saturday.

“I would have liked to have gone a little bit longer tonight,” Keuchel said Saturday. “I thought that was my job. I’m a little disappointed in five.”

White Sox manager Tony La Russa went to reliever Kendall Graveman in the top of the sixth inning, ending Keuchel’s night after 86 pitches. Keuchel threw five scoreless frames, allowing four hits and three walks.

“I mean, I’m a pitcher,” Keuchel said. “My job is to go out there and throw as many as I can. I thought 85 pitches I had enough to at least go six.”

Keuchel breezed through the first inning (12 pitches) and third (eight pitches), retiring the Yankees in order. He worked around a leadoff double in the second and a one-out single in the fourth to keep New York scoreless.

They loaded the bases off him in the fifth, via back-to-back two-out walks following a one-out single. But Keuchel ended the threat by getting Anthony Rizzo to ground out to second baseman Josh Harrison.

Yankees sluggers Giancarlo Stanton and Josh Donaldson were due up in the sixth. Graveman needed only 18 pitches to throw two scoreless innings, allowing a lone single.

Part of Keuchel’s frustration seems to lie with the White Sox’ fuzzy pitching outlook. Michael Kopech is Sunday’s scheduled starter, but they play five games in four days after that, including a Tuesday doubleheader.

“With how many games we’re playing, I thought I had at least 100 pitches [Saturday],” Keuchel said. “That didn’t happen.

“I’m not very happy with that but that’s the competitor in me and we’re going to have to figure out something [Sunday] because we have a lot more guys down now too.”

Keuchel's efforts helped the White Sox beat the Yankees Sunday. They held New York's red-hot offense in check in a 3-2 walk-off win.
