Coach Kloiber's Comments
"What a great way to open the season! Every athlete had a pace strategy and each one of them executed it exactly. They worked together, followed the plan and battled well in the final third of the race. When you put all of that together, personal bests usually happen. It is only the first meet of the year, and we know there's a lot more training and racing to do; but this should give the team a big boost of confidence that their training is sound and they're in a good place to build from."
"Our freshmen both had all-time personal bests, which is a terrific way to kick off their collegiate career, but that also means that when we move up to the 6k for Margaret and the 8k for Caleb, they're going to be better prepared for that transition. They both did a fantastic job of getting in their summer training, and running this well in the first meet should justify the work they put in. Meanwhile, our upperclassmen almost all opened up with NU personal-bests. We still have a few folks who are working through some leftover aches and pains from summer, but once those issues shake-out in the next couple of weeks, we fully anticipate that Mete, Valdivia and Adams will roll right into the rhythm with their teammates."
