Jim Brown, Ernie Davis, Floyd Little honored during N.C. State game - syracuse.com

Syracuse, N.Y. — The trinity of legendary Syracuse running backs have finally been given a Ring of Honor enshrinement.

The families of Jim Brown, Ernie Davis and Floyd Little were in attendance as Syracuse University honored the trio of running backs during halftime of Saturday’s game against N.C. State.

Each family received a Ring of Honor jacket at a ceremony honoring the running backs last night. At halftime of Saturday’s game, family members were given a framed image of a replica Ring of Honor ring. Brown’s children, Little’s wife and Davis’ cousins were in attendance to honor the legends.

Brown played for Syracuse from 1954-56. During his senior year, he was the first player in school history to be named unanimous All-American. He finished his Syracuse career with 2,091 yards and 23 touchdowns before being selected sixth overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 1957 NFL Draft. Brown played nine seasons with the Browns earning eight All-NFL selections, nine Pro Bowl selections and totaled 12,312 yards and 126 touchdowns.

Davis was a member of Syracuse’s lone national championship team during his sophomore season in 1959. Davis see school records with 2,386 yards and 35 touchdowns over the course of his career. After his senior year, Davis became the first African-American and only Syracuse player to ever win the Heisman trophy. He was then selected by the Cleveland Browns No. 1 overall in the 1962 NFL Draft. Davis was diagnosed with leukemia and never played a down of professional football before passing away at the age of 23.

Little played for Syracuse from 1964-66 and was a three-time All-American. He rushed for 2,704 yards and 46 touchdowns in his Syracuse career. After being selected No. 6 overall in the 1967 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos, Little had over 12,000 all-purpose yards and ranked seventh on the NFL’s career rushing list when he retired in 1975.

Brown, the only honoree still living, did not attend but appeared in a video thanking Syracuse.
