Popular baby names inspired by movies, books and TV is old hat. Choosing a baby name for your precious little child can be a long and hard process. Your mother, your neighbor, your best friend and basically anyone you share your pregnancy announcement with have their own opinions on what to name your baby.

Sometimes, all it takes is for one Disney movie to push aside all of the lists and inspire your princess baby. According to a new study, Disney movies have inspired A LOT of baby names. With the modern live-action adaptation of “The Little Mermaid” on everyone’s minds, I’m sure you’re wondering just how many Ariels there are. The number might surprise you.

Leading the charge is the name Jasmine from the beloved, “Aladdin.” Between the years 2000 to 2021, there were over 100,000 babies named after the princess in blue. Aurora is next in line with over 50,000 babies named after the “Sleeping Beauty” princess. Makes you wonder if any these babies slept as soundly as her!

Baby names inspired by princess Ariel account for more than 48,000. The recent release featuring the beautiful Halle Bailey is sure to inspire even more. For all of the expecting parents going to watch the movie, it’ll come as no surprise when your little one comes home from school in a handful of years and tells you their friend’s name is Ariel.

Between the three of them, the top three spots belong to Disney’s most popular princesses, Jasmine, Aurora and Ariel have inspired over 200,000 baby names over the past two decades. In fifth place is Esmerelda from “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” with over 25,000 babies named after her. Tiana also made the list! The princess from “The Princess and the Frog” has inspired over 13,000 baby names.

Other names in the top 10 include, Maximus from the movie, “Gladiator,” Ace from the movie, “Ace Ventura” and, surprisingly, Regina from the movie, “Mean Girls.” Click here for the study’s full list and other findings.
