SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT – It’s championship weekend for the Little League World Series, with activities beginning Friday and continuing through the championship game Sunday afternoon.
The original 20 teams have been reduced to four and the double elimination part of the tournament is over.
That means if undefeated Taiwan and Needville, Texas, lose Saturday in the international and U.S. games scheduled for 12:30 and 3:30 p.m., respectively, they are eliminated.
Taiwan will face Curacao and Needville will play El Segundo, California. On Thursday, Curacao eliminated Mexico, 4-2, and El Segundo edged Seattle, 2-1.
The winners of Saturday’s games will play for the world title at 3 p.m. Sunday.
One of Needville’s wins was a 2-1 victory in the opening round over Media, the Pennsylvania representative.
Prior to Saturdays contest’s, a team from Lancaster County will play in the annual Challenger Division exhibition game at 10:30 a.m. in Volunteer Stadium. Its opponent will be from Syracuse, New York.

He called it an honor to be selected because only two Challenger teams annually get to play in the exhibition game in conjunction with the world series.
The Lancaster league has 12 Challenger teams with approximately 175 players annually. It also has a senior division for those over the age of 15.
A base coach for the game will be Detroit Tiger shortstop and Hall of Famer Alan Trammell.
He will be the featured guest at the Williamsport Welcomes the World street festival Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. in downtown Williamsport.
