Paramount Pictures was previously set to open the family animated film in theaters later this year.

Netflix is saddling up to take a ride with My Little Pony.

The streamer has struck a deal with Entertainment One for worldwide rights to Hasbro's family film (eOne is Hasbro-owned). Paramount Pictures had been previously set to distribute the CGI-animated movie in theaters on Sept. 24, 2021. Instead, the family pic will go out via Netflix later this year.

The deal doesn't include China.

My Little Pony is one of Hasbro's most popular toy lines and media franchises. First launched in the early 1980s, it has been modernized and revamped throughout the years. Mainly targeting younger girls, the brand has corralled billions of dollars in retail sales.

There were numerous TV adaptations of the toy line before Paramount — home of Hasbro's Transformers film franchise — struck a deal to distribute a movie based on My Little Pony.

From eOne’s animation outfit Boulder Media, the feature film is directed by Rob Cullen and Jose Ucha alongside co-director Mark Fattibene. Cecil Kramer and Peter Lewis are producing.

The story follows the beloved pony world of Equestria as it expands to introduce a new generation of ponies to a new generation of fans.

Netflix intends to premiere My Little Pony later this year, and the project is part of the streamer's original slate of animated features that has grown during the pandemic as studios such as Paramount wait for cinemas to reopen in earnest.

Last year, Netflix also brokered a deal for international rights to Paramount's The SpongBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.

Netflix’s animated features slate also includes the previously released Klaus, The Willoughbys and Over the Moon, as well as the upcoming comedy Back to the Outback, Apollo 10 ½: A Space Age Adventure, The Sea Beast, Pinocchio and The Magician’s Elephant, among other titles.
