Little Tigers Football weekend recaps - The Edwardsville Intelligencer

The 7U Little Tigers coached by David Jackson Sr, assisted by Coach Watts, Coach Bradley, and Coach Godwin, came out fired up and ready to play, ending result, they won this week’s football game with a shut-out against Mascoutah.

The ending score for this game was 19 Edwardsville LittleTigers, 0 Little Indians.

Touchdowns were made on some outstanding runs by #34 Henry Godwin, #75 Louis Jones and #3 Graham Miller.

In a defensive contest, the Little Tigers were pushing hard. #5 Liam and #7 Isaac Merchant were stalwarts on defense with some awesome tackles. #15 Tyler Bradley, #16 David Jackson Jr and #18 Crew Prange chipped in with some timely blocking on the touchdown runs.

#24 Jamyl Clayton, #35 Bodie Mortland and #29 Calvin Griffith made some key tackles behind the line of scrimmage on defense. #26 Blake Shelton , #44 Henry Matthews and #97 Jared Farrell showed amazing hustle and grit on offense. All of the players were fired up and this resulted in a dominating game on defense as the Tigers shut out the Little Indians for the second time this season.

The offense controlled the time of possession with three awesome touchdown drives. Final score, Little Tigers 19, Little Indians 0.

The 7U Little Tigers Cheerleading Squad was strongly supporting their 7U Little Tigers Football team for their halftime show comprised of Charlie Kennedy, Destiny Harvey, Maggie Bradley, Mikaela Sanders, Nora Sollberger, and Zara Hall; coached by Kelly Sollberger and assisted by Junior coach Jalynn Clayton. These little ladies showed their Tiger Pride and their support for breast cancer awareness sporting pink bows as they cheered for the 7U boys’ football team in the early morning game. Team Mom Virginia Gentry, keeping these boys looking great again out there with their pink socks for October’s Breast Cancer Awareness. These families traveled early and far and these boys showed up to win!

Interview with Coach Jackson post-game was pleased with the overall effort and energy displayed by the Tigers. “As a team, we are performing well on offense and defense. Thank You to all the cheerleaders, parents, and fans for the consistent support!!”

Teamwork, patience, and perseverance pay big dividends and these guys are ready to take on the next challenge. On to the next game, Sunday, October 23, 2021, at 1 p.m. for a rematch against the 7U Belleville Little Knights.

Highland 19,

Little Tigers 9U 14

The 9U Edwardsville Little Tigers faced the Highland Bulldogs in week 8 of regular season play on Sunday, October 17 AT noon. The Tigers came up just short of a win with a score of 14-19.

The Tiger defense was led by Bradley Crays with 8 tackles, followed by Darrell Tillman, Blake Schroeder, Will Miller and Sam Sarrach with 4 each. Bradley Crays had 3 tackles for a loss against the Bulldogs, and Micah Barhoumi and Holden Hargrave contributed one each. Holden Hargrave and Drake Bushman each had a sack to round out the Tiger defense.

The Tiger offense had a difficult time with many penalties called during the game, but they managed to score two touchdowns. Bradley Crays led with 74 yards followed by Brody Rayner with 53 yards. Crays also had a 35 yard completed pass to receiver Micah Barhoumi and Parker Devening kicked a field goal for two extra points.

Thank you to the 9U cheerleaders who cheered for the Little Tigers: Ellie Williams, Londyn Wilson, Brooklyn Lawson, Brylee Hollbrook, and Henley Devening.

All of the 9U Little Tigers contributed during the game on Sunday. Next up, the 9U will play Collinsville on Saturday, October 23 @ 3pm at the Tiger Country Fields in Edwardsville. This will be the last regular-season game.
